Is phone, ipad or laptop bestt for something I can put my films in to show with good quality on people's TV (HDMI) and/or projector (VGA)

I often show my films to groups via either TV or projector, depending n which they have. I do not have a laptop (have a desktop) and friend has recommended that I use a Samsung Galaxy S3 and connect via various adaptors depending on need. But this does not give very good picture, I think?. So do I need to buy a small laptop/ipad?

Hi Claire, take a look at the Chromecast: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Google-Chromecast-Streaming-Media-Player/dp/B00I4WQ618

Install the app on your device, then just plug this little baby into the HDMI socket of any display device (TV, projector, whatever) and you can stream movies in full HD. Works REALLY well (I've watched feature films streamed from an android tablet). And at £29, it's a bargain.

I think it's a really bad idea to show your films on a Galaxy or ipad. I have watched closely the reaction to my short film when I have shown it: the bigger the screen and sound the stronger the response - a cinema the best of course. The real loss is atmosphere and depth of sound. Pacing is also thrown off.
Of course, people WILL be watching films on phones and ipads but, if you want a positive response, then show it as big as you can. Unless it's to film-friends who understand the limitations...

To be honest, Clare, I too don't have a laptop but am thinking of getting one, and a projector.

BTW the S3 is an older handset now, current model is s6 which has an even higher native screen resolution, hovering close to the 4k mark!

Samsung Galaxy phones are excellent, and should be comfortably able to stream HD content either wirelessly or wired with an adaptor. Quality won't be worse that an equivalently priced iPad, indeed it'll quite likely be better and more widely compatible.

I use my phone galaxy note 2 with a hmdi adaptor (that needs a phone charger plug in to work) and it works a treat as a player for tvs or projectors... alot less bulky than a laptop. Just find a player app from andriod that you like... a good free one that plays most formats is mx player.
