Is there a community of film makers in Edinburgh?

Hi everyone,

I'm a screenwriter and director, and I've just moved to Edinburgh and I was wondering if there's some sort of community in the city who support each other in our projects? I've got ambitions to use my time here to hone my craft and try to make a name for myself so, having a network of like minded people would obviously be amazing.

I have a couple of scripts I'm developing to shooting stage, so if anyone wants to help me out with them please get in touch, or if anyone is part of a scene in Edinburgh for writers, or even if there's a film making whatsapp group for local creatives, please let me know. I'm looking forward to getting involved in lots of projects.

PS, if there isnt a whatsapp group but that sounds like something you'd be interested in, I can set that up. I was in one when I lived in London and a lot of films and plays came from it, including one I took to a festival.

Hi David, There are definitely filmmakers in and around Edinburgh, but if there’s a currently active network it has passed me by. Some years ago there was an active screenwriters group in Edinburgh, and there’s still the Scottish Screenwriters based in Glasgow but attempts at “Shooters int eh Pub” in Edinburgh didn’t really take off.

Hi David,

There are some Scotland-wide Facebook groups but I'm not sure if there's anything Edinburgh specific! I'm a career starter/script reader with a MA in Screenwriting and I just completed a course in script editing. If you'd like a newbie script editor, let me know!

Have you tried getting in touch with Screen Academy Scotland? It seems like a reasonable place to tap into talent in the area.
