INDEXIs this gig for real?
9 years, 11 months ago - James Calder
Hi,
This post popped up on Craigslist last week: http://london.craigslist.co.uk/wrg/5201464004.html.
I'm new to this game so have no idea if it's for real or not, though I am wondering why Ska Films would be touting for screenplays (surely they must have a pretty full slate).
If anyone's got any input/insight, I'd appreciate it.
TIA

It might be legit, but not sanctioned by SKA. In other words, nobody wants to be a reader for life. It's a stepping stone. The best way up the ladder is to discover an amazing script. Having said that, I would be a bit wary of a reader advertising on Craig's list. What's to stop this person tearing off the cover page and putting his own name on it? It's been known to happen. In fact, Google Play is having a serious problem with assholes doing just that on ebooks.

I tweeted the link to Guy Ritchie ... see if he answers or at least takes action to remove the ad if it's unofficial. If it was genuine I can't imagine the person has much of a clue of what they're doing - Craigslist screams cheap and cheerful. Had they come on here or paid for an ad on Inktip or ISA looking for a screenplay he'd at least got a semblance of professional responses

https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/03244324 suggests 2nd Floor Mka House, 36 King Street, Maidenhead, Berkshire, SL6 1NA :-)
Might be worth writing to them as if it isn't genuine you probably did them a favour pointing it out, and that might get your script courtesy read :-) If it is genuine, maybe one of those crazy "lets reach out" brainwaves....

As some of you might have guessed, I replied to the ad yesterday and sent the person behind it my script (with the logline too). Talk about Steve Naive! As soon as I hit the "send" button, I started to feel queasy about it, hence my post. I've tried to find a contact number for Ska Films and Ska Productions but no joy. The one number I did find no longer works and nor does the email address that came with it.
My script is under copyright and it's a long shot to say the least that anyone would want to rip it off, but in the unlikely scenario that they did, would my copyright be enough of a deterrent?
I guess I'll just have to put this one down to experience. Lesson learned!

Thanks for the advice, Marlom. I've kept a copy of the email I sent yesterday with the attachment. I'm guessing that would suffice as proof too.

Yeah, even if this were - in a roundabout way - real, I wouldn't trust this guy at all. There's a process for submitting scripts and it should never be under the table. Plus the fact that he's advertising on a website that is used primarily for scamming people out of cash and finding people to have sex with says something to me.

James - lots of companies, esp those which are basically personal vehicles are accounting exercises and so won't have a phone number or email address, but are very much real businesses. But every legit company has an address for official mail, and that's the one shown at Companies House.
Actual writing letter to people is still a viable communications option :-)
As to copyright, you def want to Print this page and and then get it date validated so that if push comes to shove, you have evidence that you sent them A SCRIPT. So long as you have done your basics with the script, any sane lawyer would tell them to pay up.

Can't find a phone number online and they don't have a website.
