INDEXLooking for animator for short, moving film (about algorithms)
6 years, 9 months ago - Carla Polidori
Hello!
I'm just finishing up a script about how algorithms in social networks work. It's a narrative about one small part of the chain, just trying to get content the users it serves to reach said users, but being constantly thwarted by brand stories, fake news and Russian money.
It's around 5 minutes long, and is educational underneath the story, which is very moving too.
I am applying for funding at the moment and would love to have an animator on board before then so I can be more sure of costs and also have a design treatment as part of applications.
Happy to send over a treatment / the script when it's done - but if you're interested then send me some examples of your work, and some info about how you work, costs etc :)
Thanks!

Animation can be very time consuming, so you'll probably get more traction when you've got the project not developed. If you get cash and no uptake here, you can try wooshii who seem to have people tending for lowball offers

Hi Carla,
Thank you for posting your project. I would be interested to learn more about it.
I have been working in animation for over 15 years with experience in stop motion animation. Covering all techniques from amatured puppet animation with lip sync, to glass pane rostrum animation, using various materials also.
In terms of costs, that all depends on the size of the project. I think 5 minutes is a long project for animation? Could you condense it to 3 minutes instead?
Depending on the complexities of the shot, the nature of objects or puppets to be animated, access and action involved, you would be expected to achieve 10 seconds a day, that is shooting for an 8 hour period in a day.
With your animation being 5 minutes it will require at the very least a month working full time on the project and that doesn't include the build for the sets and puppets, or making of the objects to be animated.
A bit about me:
I am based in Manchester and have my own studio set up. I have also worked as a model maker on a professional projects with experience in model making and puppet builds.
If you are interesting in discussing this further let me know and I'll sent you my email address and a link to my Vimeo channel exhibiting my previous work.
All the best with it!

Hi Carla,
If you’re looking for people to collaborate with, the most effective way of reaching other members is to list your project in the Production part of the site. You can do this by clicking on the navigation ‘Production’ > ‘Get People’ (https://shootingpeople.org/production/people).
Once you’ve completed your post, the project will be available to view on the site in the Production directory and will be published in the bulletins.
Good luck with it.
Helen

Carla,
I love playing around with algorithms. As Paddy says, animation can be time consuming. But, the underlying math of web code, I can play with that (I hard code most of my websites, and I used to hard code php, javascript and other dynamic content. Yeah, I'm sure Facebook probably uses Python or more complex stuff, but I'd love to play with that too.)
I spend more time writing than with animation, but here's some stuff I did, recently:

and No Med School:

I'm currently working on another project (the sound needs to be fixed.) I'll hopefully have some more up on my profile soon.
Feel free to PM me with more details about the project when you're ready.
All the best,
Vasco
