INDEXLooking for collaboration on historical document
3 years, 2 months ago - Robert McGowan Camera-operator-london.co.uk
I have a personal project, which I'd like to document.
I do lots of drone based worked all over London and came across the last dry dock on the Thames.
I am told the area will be developed soon, so was looking for anyone interested in history of the Thames and working life to connect with and before its all gone.
So drop me line if it sounds like your thang?
Cheers
Bob

Hi Robert, It sounds like a really interesting project. I'm intrigued from the angle of the Thames, and maritime history. I am based in Isleworth, west London but I'm guessing this is more towards the docklands, yes? As an aside, I'm also involved in a new drone operator project, www.dronework.io - which might be of interest to you. Feel free to DM me. Tony

Documentary isn't my sort of thing - but why not think about contacting the Museum of London? They have a venue in docklands and they may well have lots of information about this or be able to hook you up with people who are interested in this.

Thanks for the information Tony very useful, the location is Charlton, SE7 - as far as I am aware this is the last dry dock along the Thames now, take a look at a few images there:

Hi Bob
I’ve been involved in making a couple of films about boatyards on the Thames, one which is about the history of Eel Pie Island’s boatyards, which you can see at Eel Pie Island Museum in Twickenham and Working River (2017) an oral history project about boatyards on the Thames from Teddington to Charlton as part of Thames Festival Trust programme.
What sort of collaborators are you looking for. By the way, there is a dry dock on Eel Pie Island, it’s small but there, so I’d be careful about your claim to finding “the last one”.

Hi Bob, what sort of areas in video are you looking to collaborate with? Do you need an editor? If so I am happy to assist, no rate necessary, as working on a show reel to present different types of work, including documentary.
I am based in the North West but work remotely. Please get in touch, details here:

Sounds good! On the last big project I worked on (a feature doc called I Am Gen Z that just won best Feature at the Lower Eastside Film Festival in New York!) I got involved really early on with some music supervision, and some sound design, and replacing diegetic music from social media - the great benefit for me was that I provided a lot of the guide music for the edit, which meant no-one fell in love with something we couldn't have! So, if that doesn't completely break your work flow, I'd be happy to do that again. And I'm also happy to help, even if it's just chimping gear around - I like being on shoots, it's all good learning.
