INDEXLooking for passionate individuals to become part of Film House.

What is Film House?
Film house is a collective based in East London.
It’s an opportunity to collaborate and create.
It's a concept started in the US and it's currently being tried out in London.
What does Film House do?
Are you trying to break into the industry? Perhaps you’re working on set, working freelance. Film house puts the power in your
hands, it makes everyone equal. It combines talented people, with unique ideas and gives them the opportunity to share those ideas
with others, to gain experience and to make films. It demand nothing from you except from the opportunity to do what you love.
Film house is not a job, it’s an opportunity.
Who are we looking for?
Producers, writers, DOP’s, production managers, editors, composers, animators, special FX artists, graphic designers.
If you have some experience in the industry, the skills and the dedication neccersary then we want you. Just have something to give,
be willing to give yourself to Film house and to work as hard as you can to achieve what you want. If you have a talent, whether it’s
as Director of Photography, a writer or a editor just contact us. No experience is necessary just a willingness to involve yourself. Film
House isn’t demanding you can commit yourself as much or as little as you want, whether it’s a small single day shoot or a much
longer project. Film house isn’t a job, it’s a way of doing what you love with the support of other talented people around you. Film
House can fit around your life, your freelance work, your day to day job but if film is where your heart is then we want you.
How does it work?
Film house meets one every fortnight, just come along to the meetings. At the meetings everyone discusses how to move their ideas
and also film house as a whole forwarded. As well as creating short films, Film House will use it’s joint skills connections to undertake
commercial work. This money is then fed back into Film House to help fund passion projects and move Film House and the members forward in the industry.
Why Film House?
Film house gives you back the power. In film whatever you want to do it will involve a lot of unpaid work, a lot of starting from the
bottom and working you way up - a lot of emails, phone calls, internships and terrible demeaning work. Film house isn’t a job, so it
isn’t paid, but instead of being unpaid and working for someone else you’re working for yourself. You’re as important as everyone
else, anything created it is rightly your creation as much as everyone else. Film house removes the barriers and confusion of the
traditional film making regime. By combining everyone’s experience, contacts and work we can move forward faster in the industry
than independently.
How do I join?
If you would like to be a part of Film House just contact. Members of Film House are not chosen on experience, but by showing passion, talent and by
matching the ethos that Film House hopes to create. You’ll then be sent more information on Film house and what it does, including
the Film House mantra. After reading this if you agree with what Film House hopes to achieve then you will be invited for the first
meeting. Once you come to that, what happens at Film House is completely up to you. Like most things in life - you get out what you
put in.

Hi all,
Thank you for all of your inquiries and enthusiasm toward Film House.
There is still a bit of work to do to get Film House into place and fully operational in London.
As I mentioned the concept began in America and I'm responsible for setting it up in London.
So the process from here is that I take a list of possible members to the founders of the original and they choose from that list.
At this point all the information that I can provide is in the original post.
If you do wish to become a member please message me following the instructions in the 'How do I join?' section of the original post.
I hope this clears up any questions.

Ethos, mantra, selection or rejection? I missed that in the original post. I may have perceived wrongly and stand to be corrected but right now it seems more of a cult than a club? I'd like to know more before 'making an application' Is there a web link? Cant find anything on Google yet, unless it's buried in the deeper pages.

Thanks for posting this Joshua. It sounds like it may be an ideal collaboration for lots of people. We used to call similar arrangements ‘clubs’. What clubs like this can offer is the opportunity for beginners to learn through doing and for films that would not normally have a chance, because they are shorts or otherwise uneconomic projects, of actually getting made. I imagine that any commercially viable projects that the club produces would put a few coffers in the clubs piggy bank.
For those who have more professional and economically viable projects though, there are other sorts of entities, sometimes referred to as business collaborations or co-productions, which while having many similar features to a club, are and absolutely must be, deliberately exclusive in order to protect valuable Intellectual Properties that are at the heart of such things. In a similar way as a club, such enterprise associations can be initiated without very much being put on the table other than Intellectual Property, professional skills and a mutual purpose. Unfortunately such a collaborative enterprise would be impossible if it were open to anyone. What this suggests is that the open club model becomes strained at the point that someone actually has a project that has any monetary value.
I was going to mention fishing expeditions, and now I have.
Shooting Peoples membership includes many professionally experienced film makers who only require viable social/cultural/political collaborative structures with each other in order to realise their mutual aspirations. Perhaps a methodology might be devised here that would facilitate this? Creating lots of exclusive little clubs that in turn empower professional ‘day job’ projects that actually pay the rent and living costs of its members?

The idea sound great. John Lubran is however right. It will be good if this is also a viable platform for many professionals on SP. The challenges for many is the availability of effective collaborative structure. It is not always true that we must always do stuff for free or without eventual monetary reward. Nevertheless, I will like to be part of this. More information please. Email me at jabisayo@dvwaltz.co.uk

Hi Joshua, this sounds like a great group to belong to, I'd certainly be very interested in joining up and attending the get-togethers. I'm an actor, scriptwriter and paid script assessor, film festival judge, producer and director. I also have a film group through MeetUp.com with nearly 200 members, which is a great talent pool you could dip into. So please get in touch with me by emailing hc.smith@btinternet.com
Many thanks and regards, look forward to hearing from you shortly. All the best, Chris.
