Looking for professional actors to join our actor's cooperative agency

10 years, 4 months ago - Carey Thring

We are auditioning actors to join our agency cooperative. If you meet the criteria below and are interested in collaborating with a professional group of actors representing ourselves, we are interested in hearing from you. We have an in house casting director, a playwright, plus directors and producers in the group, and we are especially interested in actors who have producing experience.

If you are not currently represented or have a non exclusive agreement, you have spotlight and IMDb pages, a current head shot and a showreel, please get in touch. We will be inviting actors to audition to be part of the coop in the next few weeks.

We are In the early stages of setting up our co-op. The current members are made up of attendees of Paul McNeilly's Bubble and Squeak weekly workshop for acting professionals. We are indeed based in London. http://actingatbubbleandsqueak.com/

I've always been intrigued by the idea of a 'co-op' for actors. This is doubtless at least partly influenced by a lifetime of contacts with various types of 'union' in mainstream work especially as a youth worker in London. This would be the third foray into this world for me since my previous two were unsuccessful for reasons I still can't really divine. This is odd since one would imagine an actor's co-op to be more upfront than mainstream unions, many of whom I know from experience can be as devious as the employers. The last one in London (it wasn't you lot was it?) reacted enthusiastically (well something like that) to my audition pieces and I thought 'well I'm in here'. But I wasn't. Apparently they work on a 'black ball' system so it one or two don't like you (for whatever reason) you're 'blackballed'. It makes me less than enthusiastic about another go. But heigh ho - you gotta laugh haven't you. Where I could I send my details to? I.e. headshot, C.V. etc. My showreel is Mac McKenna showreel 2013

It sounds like a great idea, but who are "we"? I'm assuming you're based in London, right? Is that where the auditions will be based?

Is the Co-op already set up as a legal entity, or is it just an idea at this stage?
