Looking to buy a Movie Magic Budgeting License

9 years, 2 months ago - Adolf El Assal

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a second-hand Movie Magic Budgeting license as I can't afford to buy the full one.
Any help is much appreciated.
All the best,
Ady

Don't think they come up that often, people tend to use them and the licence is tied to the device as well as account. Resolving a licence issue took me 2 weeks. And it's shit.

MMB has some huge problems, like copy and paste from Excel/between levels simply does not work, so you may find yourself retyping. And reporting is awful 'which line items have this fringe applied?' isn't an unreasonable question. The 4th level looks like and claims to be like a spreadsheet, but is somewhat limited. The UI is lumpy and feels like 1999. Autosave warnings are pop-ups which get in the way, they don't actually the save reliably, you still have do it yourself (or lose work like i did recently when 4th level screwed up). Unless you absolutely must, have a look at alternatives, or even keep on with Excel a while longer. EP haven't invested any love into it for ages.

Rant addendum - and it's written in Java, so I have to keep the huge security exploit surface that is Java on my machine, despite not using it for anything else for a decade or so.

I'm not a huge fan, can you tell?

Love your rants, Paddy!

Is there a reason you HAVE to use Movie Magic? Gorilla is a bit cheaper and not as clunky as MM. Though I can't tell you how well the different parts of the software talk to each other: I still break down a script by hand. I don't trust any software to do that, and by the time I'm done, I know the script backwards and forwards.

And why do you only want budgeting? You can't budget a script until you can schedule it. Otherwise, you're just plugging in vague numbers.

Here's where you can check out Gorilla:

This is a U.S. link, btw.

Like that rant, Dan? Bonus round just for you...

The compass navigation at the top, it's a useful design metaphor sometimes, but deary me, why make the actual clickable surfaces so small to slow you down finding the magic few pixels?

;-)

HA! That's true! Honestly, when MM first came out, it was an amazing thing. Now they are just leaning on that early reputation and don't seem to give a shit about even the most obvious and basic stuff.
