Looking to shadow a Script Supervisor

8 years, 5 months ago - Omiros Vazos

Hi everyone,

My name is Omiros Vazos and I am a Glasgow-based script supervisor.

I have had training in the role at a two-week course in Cardiff, one day's worth of shadowing on Love Sick and most of my experience has been on short films and one indie feature. In moving forward I would like to shadow someone on a TV show or feature for a longer period of time so I can improve on my working system in order to take on bigger projects.

Even though I'm based in Glasgow I could potentially arrange transport and accommodation for myself elsewhere in the UK.

If there are any script supervisors who would be willing to let me shadow them or if there is anyone who have any advice on the matter it would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks,

Omiros Vazos

Hiya,

I don't work as a Scriptie, but something to bear in mind is that headcount on set is tightly controlled, so it may be worth thinking of how you can convince production that you're to their benefit. Every parking space costs money, every visit to the craft table, every meal, every seat, etc. At least I suggest you make yourself cost neutral so any script super can make a case for you with production.

My girlfriend at the time was able to do some shadowing on some TV dramas, and found it invaluable. Plus, since she lived with an editor (me), I was able to fill in what editors look for and need from my end. When we were finally able to work together, she was the best script supervisor I ever had. I wish you the very best of luck. It's a great idea. If you ever have the opportunity to talk to an experienced editor, please to that too. Or on any feature you work on, talk to the editor about what they might especially be keen on needing. Bring in your notes from old shows and ask him/her if there is anything they want done differently.

Hi,
Most productions are pretty cool about shadowing but it tends to be a week here or there not the whole production. The final yes comes from the director and line producer. It would be so much easier if shadowing came through skillset or similar organisation. I am a scripty and could possibly help. I have one person already on my shadow list but am happy to chat. Maybe point you in the direction of more scripty's willing to help?

That would be hugely appreciated Pat, thanks. Any time spent on a movie or TV set shadowing would be invaluable. I have contacted as many Scotland-based script supervisors as I could find with not very promising results so if I had some more guidance with regards to shadowing elsewhere in the UK it would be very helpful.
