No budget micro-short film/shoot on DSLR or I-pad?

I'm shooting a micro short film in a beautiful location by the sea next week. It has no budget and is just me, a camera and a friend. The script is solid and I know what we're shooting but I'm a completely inexperience camera op! I have a choice of an iPad or my Pentax K30 DSLR with the lense that came with it (18-55mm?) I'm technically clueless. I have to edit it quickly on either iMovie or through one of those Super 8 Apps you can get on ipad/iphone? It's to send with an application for a directors course I want to get on. I know they'll be looking at the choices of shots and how effectively I tell a story through a lense but I would like it to look as technically proficient as possible. Can anyone advice on the most idiot proof way to film and then edit- either with the DSLR or the iPad?

HUGE THANKS!!!

The feature film Tangerine was shot on an iPhone. There's some tech advice on how they did it in this article.

And the iOgrapher is a neat mount for handheld shots with the iPhone and iPad.

As for a "fool proof" way to shoot and edit? I don't think such a thing exists. When you shoot, make sure you get lots and lots of coverage so that you don't burn yourself in the editing room. Shoot stuff you don't even think you'll need or use.
