Good Afternoon,
Can anyone recommend any short screen writing courses? Online or evenings would suit me best but I'm open to any suggestions.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Rowena Meddeman

Hi Rowena. I recommend the Met Film School. I actually did their six-month screenwriting course earlier this year (alternate Saturdays over the six months) and it did wonders for my understanding of story structure. It involves breaking down movies scene by scene and real forensic analysis, plus lots of good feedback on the realities of the industry. It's a little pricey, but worth it for what you get. But do we prepared for a lot of constructive criticism!

Hi Rowena,
I did the weekend met Film School Screenwriting course as an intro and as a newbie to screenwriting it was very helpful. I'd like to do a longer course, but my working pattern does not allow this. If you have more time then Met is a really interesting place. I've read the 'Save the Cat' and this helpful too. I think that reading widely rather then just one book is the wise thing to do as everyone has a variation and you can pick up a more complete picture. There is also the weighty tome - 'Story' by Robert McKee.
All the best and if you want to link up at some point for a chat, I'm always interested in meeting new people in the film world.
Regards
Tim

Hey Rowena! Happened to see your post... If you'd like to work online or on the phone with a working film or TV writer as your mentor, check out Script E.R (www.screenplay-emergency.com)

Hi Rowena
Excuse me plugging our courses at Euroscript! We often attract writers after they have been on the MA courses and want to develop further - but many come along at earlier stages of their screenwriting careers.
You might be particularly interested in our Monday evening development workshops - where you get face-to-face feedback on your work in a group of up to six with one of our consultants (who are all in the industry). They're once a month at the BFI Southbank.
We also have specific workshops on all aspects on evenings and weekends. Many writers put these together to create their own tailor-made course. Of course, there are other courses around, but we get good feedback from our writers. We're working writers and film-makers ourselves, and we see people go on to become successful. I wouldn't be involved if I didn't value what we do.

Good luck with your writing
