How have screenwriting competitions helped you with your craft?

I've not entered Bluecat for a few years, but they did give helpful feedback to me when i entered a few years ago. It helps you to get a perspective as to where you are at.
I also think that the pageinternational judges feedback is worth the additional fee. Again, it helped me alot to ascertain where I was heading. I don't think there's many other competitions that offer feedback, but I think it is a great idea and is better than waiting for a flat rejection letter.
I'm paying how much money to enter film festivals and whilst rejection is part of the game, it would be great to get just a few lines of feedback - it doesn't cost much timewise considering the effort and time invested by the filmmakers, writers etc.
There used to be a few online screen competitions that were free like moviepoet, and these really were extremely helpful in developing craft as you got free feedback from about 20 people on a 5 minute short, but I believe moviepoet has now closed. There may be others out there.

Hi Dan,
I read with competitions like Blue Cat that you have script reader feedback for instance, which would then hopefully aid in better understanding how to develop areas of writing going forward.

@Rickardo Beckles-Burrowes No, I get that. I just couldn't imagine how entering a contest could help with the craft. They don't give you feedback, just a rejection letter.
