I've not entered Bluecat for a few years, but they did give helpful feedback to me when i entered a few years ago. It helps you to get a perspective as to where you are at.

I also think that the pageinternational judges feedback is worth the additional fee. Again, it helped me alot to ascertain where I was heading. I don't think there's many other competitions that offer feedback, but I think it is a great idea and is better than waiting for a flat rejection letter.

I'm paying how much money to enter film festivals and whilst rejection is part of the game, it would be great to get just a few lines of feedback - it doesn't cost much timewise considering the effort and time invested by the filmmakers, writers etc.

There used to be a few online screen competitions that were free like moviepoet, and these really were extremely helpful in developing craft as you got free feedback from about 20 people on a 5 minute short, but I believe moviepoet has now closed. There may be others out there.

Hey Tony,

Do you think you will continue entering screenwriting competitions and if so, is there anything you'd do differently with your entry?

Hi Dan,

I read with competitions like Blue Cat that you have script reader feedback for instance, which would then hopefully aid in better understanding how to develop areas of writing going forward.

That didn't happen in any kind of competition in my case - except martial arts, where there is interaction.

Hey Alève,

Do you think you will enter screenwriting competitions in the future?

@Rickardo Beckles-Burrowes No, I get that. I just couldn't imagine how entering a contest could help with the craft. They don't give you feedback, just a rejection letter.

Hi Dan,

Craft as in screenwriting.

With the craft? I'm not sure I understand your question. How could entering your script into competitions help improve your writing? With the possible exception of writing more scripts than you would have normally.
