Seeking collaboration for videodance.

8 years, 9 months ago - Sheida Mas

Hello,I am an spanish choreographer that just moved to London and I am looking for new collaborators for one of my favourites art forms, videodance.

Don't need much, just a good camera man/woman with some editing skills, the rest I put....dancers, the story, the movement, the space...

If I was in London I'd be interested - showing dance in video is difficult as you need to see the whole stage and focus on tiny details at the same time!

It's that minds eye versus camera eye thing. It's rare to find a live performance director who understands the difference.

The original filming of Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake was actually well done, it's usually looking where I want to look at the right times. https://youtu.be/13_D0djH3jc for the final scenes (about 13 minutes).

Hello Sheida,

I have once done a small experimental dance documentary. I wouldn't really call it much experience but would be interested in getting involved a bit more with that kinda stuff.

Oh wow! I didn't know I was gonna create a debate. Paddy explained it really well tho.As the choreographer I can help guiding what moments are important not to miss, or where the attention should go in certain moments but is up to the camera really, and the edition afterwards.

The choreography is made specially for video tho, which should help. This is the kind of work I had in mind....

Hey Sheida,

I'm interested in this. My last film was about a dancer, and involved filming several ballet dancers and choreography. The trailer is here: https://vimeo.com/155882891

You can email me on scoutstuart@gmail.com if you'd like to open a dialogue. Thanks.

Thanks for posting the result, looks like whoever you found did a good job within the constraints of shooting into the light (even using dip to white to cover some transitions to mirror shooting into the sun). It certainly helped that you choreographed it to be suitable for filming - ballet is a lot tougher. All in all, I hope everyone is pleased with the results, I think you've a right to be.

Hello Sheida,

I missed the first opportunity to collaborate on the first video, but would love to be part of the next.
I've always been interested in developing a dance project and find myself having a lot of ideas but yet I haven't hooked up with any dancers to go forward with. I am also developing film ideas that require dance choreographies and would love to collaborate on that as well.

Let me know if you're interested in making another video and would like to discuss any further (you can check my profile here: https://shootingpeople.org/cards/CarlosLopes)

Thank you,
Carlos
