INDEXShort films - online release strategy?
1 year, 5 months ago - Anna-Marie Ramm
Hello people! I have a couple of completed short films which are currently on the festival circuit. Does anyone have any advice on releasing short films online? Did you wait until the end of your festival screenings, or release online at the same time? Does anyone have experiences of the below platforms (or others) that they'd be able to share?
Omeleto
Short of the Week
Directors Notes
Minute Shorts
Klipist
Film Shortage
I'd love to hear pros and cons and what worked or didn't work for you! Thanks.

Hey Anna-Marie, that's a great list — you've covered the ones I know of, for sure.
Consider submitting to 'Kino Short of the Week'. Here's an example:

What I like about Kino interviews, is they offer the filmmaker an opportunity to discuss their process in depth, plus, you can send them BTS stills to accompany the piece, which I'm sure you have given that you shoot BTS for brands & HETV.
Reading through your website, you clearly have many credible credits and have worked with many recognisable brands and personalities, so this gives you a very rare opportunity to pitch YOURSELF for media interviews as well as your projects. By this, I mean sharing your experiences and advice with filmmaking websites, blogs, podcasts, youtube channels etc. This is a great way to not only build your profile, but share your message i.e. "I love finding extraordinary in the ordinary, in both documentary and fiction, and telling stories about kickass women with hints of dark humour."
I really like that blurb; it's clean, crisp and clearly indicates your 'lane'.
Additional to my filmmaking projects, I run a PR agency, so over the years, I've learned how to get my projects featured on the biggest websites like Red Bull, Huff Post, BBC, Creative Boom etc etc. I enjoy helping creatives get their work out there too, so if you ever need tips or advice, just shout... I DO NOT charge for answering Qs from fellow creatives :)

Hey CK, thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! This is really helpful. Great idea about the interviews - I've managed to secure one so far and would love some thoughts on who else to approach. I'll ping you an email :)
