Still searching for projects to grade for free

4 years, 9 months ago - Chiara Coperchini

Hello again Shootong People!
I hope everyone of you is ok.

Briefly, I already ask you before if someone needed a colorist, and I had such a great experiece that I would love to repeat this offer to find some more projects and to expand my network in this difficult times.

If someone is interested, please drop me an email at chiara.cope@gmail.com and I'll send you some of my works (that I can't publish here since they're still undisclosed).

Thank you again for your attention, I hope I can be helpful for some of you!

Best,
Chiara

It helps if one has a well authenticated profile on SP. We have well over a thousand hours of carefully recorded footage and wouldn't dream of sending it out to anyone whose standing can't be verified; for a whole host of practical and pragmatic reasons.

It's significant that there's a reason for the tumbleweed blowing through the facilities business. Where once very expensive and I mean preposterously expensive equipment was required for high quality post production and grading, such is no longer the case and relatively low cost, smarter and more user friendly tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Apple and others have changed things completely.

The Moores Law equation shows no sign of abating after a quarter of a century. It's not only the tools of production that get smarter and cheaper by the day. The people who use those tools are also getting smarter more cost effective, even if not actually cheaper, principally due to multitasking becoming so viable and natural.

The culture of production has changed a lot since I started in film and television in the 70's when a unionized cloth capped single skilled prosaic filled most jobs behind the camera and back stage.

There are no rules today, other than law

You're very right, that's why my offer stands, of course, only after a dialogue between the two parts, I would never ask anyone to send me footage with eyes closed.

Just to tell something about myself, I'm a photographer, daughter of a photographer, that just recently fell in love with the colour grading world. Being in this kind of business for quite some time now, I really do have great respect for anyone that spends energy, time, money in creating something, as I have respect for what they work on.

The themes you talked about can be applied in the photography world too of course, and many others. I think the fact that anyone today can have access to professional tools does have some throwbacks, like the actual cost of the service getting lower (I lived that firsthand), since the market has become actually oversaturated. Given the vastity of the offer, of course the average quality may be lower too.

But nonetheless, I do find this quite exciting: the possibilities now are endless, you can work with someone on the other part of the globe just because you believe in their vision and the competition has maybe never been higher since there are so many talented people that now can fulfill their idea.
This really drive people (it does drive me) to be better at what they do, to constantly learn more thanks to unlimited access to informations and confrontations with other craftsmen. I think it wasn't possible not even so many years ago, I do really believe it's thrilling!

That being said I want to reiterate that what I'm asking here is not for someone to send me footage with eyes closed. I'm offering, if someone is interested, my time, my commitment, my gear and my skills, after at least an exchange of emails, to have the possibility to use that project for my reel.

Oh, and I will soon update my profile, this is a great platform and I plan to stick around...I've been working non-stop and it's a pretty rough period, but it is definetly on my to do list:)

Thank you for your reply and this insight!

Back in the 70's I had a friend who earned big money as a freelance 'Computer Operator' and we shot breaking news on 16mm film.

Actually I do envy you a bit, creating on film has given me such a joy in the photography world.

Oh, by the way, forgot to write about it in the first post, but, even though I'm of course open to any kind of footage, I would be more interested in at least a 10 bit image. Thanks to the ones who already contacted me, and for the rest of you I hope we can collaborate!
