11 years, 10 months ago - Mark Jacobs

Advertised yesterday WTF is going on?

Shoot Date: 8th Oct 2013 - 12th Oct 2013
Shooting: London, Great Britain, Up to £100, insured: No

Is this a student project: Yes

Let me understand this correctly. You are studying at a seat of learning? Its supposed to do things correctly and teach best practice? You are subsidised by us, the taxpayers? Yet you are not insuring those who work with you? Are you aware of the risk you are placing yourselves in? Wouldn't the the HSE have a field day?

SP can you please do something to ensure that student films have quote which uni or film school it is, so that someone can do something to stamp out this bad practice?

Run a mile everyone.

Rant over, places please.

If you are a public funded educational establishment its hugely advisable to have PL insurance for your staff, students and visitors.
If you're students aren't aware of the liabilities they ought to have and their limitation (eg. no off campus cover) then I'd question the quality of the teaching - and where our taxes are going.

Expenses: Conversations on Death - Female Actor
Daniel Johnson
Female Actor
I am in my final year of BA Fine Art at Wimbledon College of Art and need a female actor between the age of 27-40 to star in one of a three part film series I am making entitled Conversations on Death. We will be filming during the first two weeks of January including one day of rehersals and a maximum of 2 days filming. Unfortuantly I can't pay you as i am a student but I will pay travel costs (within London travel) and provide food. If you are interested then please get in touch (sending a portfolio is not obligatory but would be helpful) and I shall send you the script. Looking forward to working with you Dan Johnson

Is there any legal requirement for employers insurance on small shoots? My reading of the official documents would suggest that for most "no pay" projects there isn't any employer/employee relationship to insure.

Public Liability is a good idea, but not essential and the world is full of people who do things that they could have PL for, but don't. Like riding a bike.

So, provided it is clear that the shoot is uninsured, AND of a small scale, it's perfectly reasonable for them to be on Shooting People.

Genuine student productions probably are insured via the training facility, perhaps this should be cleared up. If it's a non-coursework shoot with some people who are students, then yes, they need external insurance.

Most people though under-insure because it costs real money. What insurance is an acceptable minimum will vary, but I'd suggest public liability and employers liability should be demonstrated in order to protect the production against injuring the public and any crew who aren't working as limited company contractors.

I'm actually surprised by this. I don't know of a film school here in America that DOESN'T carry production insurance for its students. All it requires is a bit of paperwork on the student's part.
