Hi Shooters,

Looking for rough estimates or recommendations for actors fees, I am trying to budget for a music video shoot.

Thanks

Piece of string.
If no-one is being paid at all, and the music video will be an exciting and well run piece, then it is a collaboration. We are all doing it for the experience, connections, publicity and fun. Hoorah!
If this is a professional shoot, which you realistically expect to make money for someone (group/singer/business/you) then you should expect to pay union rates.
Something in between, perhaps with a profit sharing aspect, then around £130 a day is reasonable. If you shoot creatively and with precision, you can pay by the half day.
If you are not paying full union rates, remember to treat everyone professionally and with respect. Value their input, give them screen credits and show reel take ways, and be very, very grateful.

Hi Yen,

Thanks a lot for that. Really helpful, at this point I am trying to put together a budget for the Artist to see what can work and what might not.

Suleiman

Hi Suleiman,

My suggest is to put out a casting call on social media, art schools and online casting sites offering expenses only. Expenses should cover basic travel plus food and drink on set. Whether your video is for a well known musician or not many new and/or inexperienced actors would be happy to have it to add to their reel/resume. If it is a well known musician it is likely they would have given you an idea of the kind of budget they are prepared to outlay.

Basically offer expenses and they will have something cool to put on their showreel. Unless it's in the style of the video crediting unknown actor/models on a video might look a little amateur.

Last I checked, professional actors started at £200 per day.

Of course, for longer contracts of at least a month with a full time week, sometimes talented people without a track record work for minimum wage (it might beat working at a supermarket.) But most music videos are short term, and the better you pay the less they'll have to moonlight (and when they moonlight, or have to work long hours, believe me, the quality of the work will go down.)

Remember, pay peanuts, get monkeys.
