What's the best way to contact producers for voiceover work?

12 years, 3 months ago - Mike Cooper

Hi everyone, I'm new to Shooting People, and very happy to be here!

My name is Mike Cooper and I'm an experienced voiceover artist based in London with my own studio. Though I work in many genres, my favourite work is narrating documentaries, and I'm hoping to connect with producers here.

Up until now my documentary narration - though extensive - has been mostly confined to reversioning programmes for channels like History, National Geographic and so on, with occasional projects for independent filmmakers. I'd very much like to work directly with producers on original programming, which is why I'm reaching out here.

But what's the best way of doing this on the site?

Thanks for your advice!

- Mike

Thanks for your advice, Vasco. I've signed up for some bulletins already and I do see that jobs appear on those, which is great.

What I'm trying to do is get myself on the radar of people making documentaries, so that I'm in mind if those projects need voiceover. I figure if I can be in mind early enough, and if my voice is suitable, it could save producers time by potentially cutting out the agency stage and being useful for everyone!

Mike, I'd subscribe to some bulletins (like the casting bulletin, animation, and documentary), to see what jobs are on offer. Also, do a search through profiles, and if there's a producer you'd like to work with, see what projects they have.

Always make sure your messages are personalized. If people contact me without even saying my name or something about a project, I usually ignore them. They may have not even realized who they sent their message to. But, if they personalize the message, I may have them in mind when there's some work I need done.

There are other job boards out there too, depending on what kind of company you want to work with.
