Hello,
We have a short film in post and are thinking about over laying some audio clips of politicians or news programmes discussing the abuse of civilians by allies troops in Basra.
Any hints and tips hugely appreciated.
Thank you in advanced.

Hi Steel, even if you can find some clips, they will belong to somebody, so you will need to get the rights to them. It will be time consuming to find the clips and then their sources, etc.
If this is drama, you could just get some guys to act the discussion and record it.
If it is documentary, then you can to find out which politicians are deeply involved, and ask them for am interview. True you have to travel and record, but you get the words that you want.. You could even record telephone conversations with them, if that would fit in with the way you want to use them.
I'm sure you will have good luck with it.

ITNSource will likely have some, but at a price. You may also need to clear the context with them. Far better to make your own as then you control content end to end with no licencing issues as Yen suggests

Hi Steel, here in the U.S. every news agency has a footage library. You just tell them what you're looking for. I'm not sure how they go about it now, but in the old days let's say you needed footage of a bomb hitting the gaza strip. They'd send you a time coded tape with a window burn of all the footage they have of that. Then from that, you tell them what clip you need and for how long. Back then, it was 90 dollars a minute. Your first stop might be CNN.

BTW, you ARE licensing the footage that CNN (or other new sources) own, so the legal concerns mentioned above aren't really applicable.

Steel, if you are looking for archive of Basra when the British troops were in occupation, let me know. I was filming there in 2003 and have archive of Basra at the time and a little on the civilian casualties there as well.

Hi, I have always found what I required, surprisingly, on You Tube. I have a couple of my own and David Cameron stars in both. It may be Basra will be a little too historical but worth a try. RegardsSteve
