3 years, 6 months ago - Ariel Pozuelo
Hi everyone
I have being trained as and actor, after moving to the UK from Cuba, I took still photography and later a bit of filmmaking, plus lot of restaurants hr
I wanted to ask if there are chances for people with no much experience, not filmmaking studies to get on production as DP? Director?
Im new on here and would love to hear your own experience in the uk industry as a Junior
Any advice and recommendation welcome !
Big thanks !
Ariel

Hi,
Best chance you'll get to direct or DP a film when starting out is to make one yourself.
You may be able to find a script, crew, and even a producer to help you via these boards, but at the beginning, you just gotta get on with it yourself as much as you can. Share the work, build, network etc.
Good luck.

DP and director are not entry level roles - that's top of the tree stuff! It's not only about technical/artistic skill but also largely about managing people and the dynamics of being on set. Get experience first, and do that by shooting your own projects, as it'll make things much easier when you do rise to that level :)

There have been many people who, without any formal training, qualification or experience, successfully started right at the top as Directors and or Producers, quickly learning everyone else's job too.
Such people are born, not trained and usually don't ask how to do it. It's a force of nature thing. For most other people it's a pilgrims process that takes years
