INDEXZ1 camera repair
11 years, 10 months ago - hazel chandler MBE
Hello. WAYout is a registered charity number 1123777 that teaches filmmaking in Sierra Leone. Our trusty Z1 has died and we want to get it repaired but dont have a lot of money. It has basically just stopped coming on or it flashes on for a second or two and dies again. I just got the camera back from Sierra Leone and am looking for a reasonable repairer. Does anyone know one? hazel.chandler@btinernet.com

Hello Hazel. I've been filming in various parts of Africa on and off for years. It's mostly a very tough environment for cameras but following some basic rules of care, primarily ensuring that the great out doors remains out side of the cameras innards, pays dividends, Extreme heat and condensation are also to be mitigated as much as possible. Our oldest camera a five year old Z1, has been through the most extreme conditions of the planet, repeatedly, with several hundred drum hours on the clock; never let us down. The great thing about the Z1 is its relative robustness and excellent performance. Fortunately the Z1 is one of cheapest cameras to have serviced. We just had one virtually renewed including a brand new tape transport mechanism, the whole assembly together with new heads for £300 plus VAT. Done by a very decent chap called Alan Griffiths at Bristol Broadcast Engineering. Phone number 0117 939 7500. He has a web site too.
