As a screenwriter, David Hughes has scripted ten feature films and several competition-winning shorts, and over the years has written material for John Cleese, Mike Myers, Chris Rock, Will Ferrell, Sacha Baron Cohen and numerous other comic talents. Active screenplay projects include the thriller Airborne (optioned), the low-budget horror flick Inhuman Remains (just sold), the highly personal drama The Bends (in pre-production) and the action-comedy TJ Hooker (writing under commission).
On top of his screenwriting work, Hughes has been a film critic for Empire for the past 20 years, is a widely published magazine and newspaper journalist, and author of the non-fiction film books Tales from Development Hell and The Greatest Sci-Fi Movies Never Made, and critically-acclaimed volumes about filmmakers Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch.
