I would like to know why people don't answer their email on this site !!

8 years, 5 months ago - MARCO TRANCHINA

I think is totally childish don't answer email and I know we are all busy but answering email will underline your professional attitude towards this job

I don't know if is full of over-inflated people out there or it's just a problem with this website

I can take rejection no problem but at least spear 30 second to say thanks but no thanks

Never been myself at shooter at the pub meetings but this attitude doesn't really will make me crave

We should be all on the same boat here especially when most of the job here call for you to work for free or very near to that

What your thoughts?

Marco

I personally never stress over a non response. Life is way too short.

I also know that sometimes they might be dealing with hundreds, thousands, of responses (esp if they are looking for multiple cast on multiple sites) and soon each 30s NO is hours, days, of work.

It's also not always obvious that there are 2 tabs for messages and frankly the interface is a bit creaky.

Yes you are quite right that people are rubbish at responding and sometimes it can get annoying, but like the others say - gotta ignore it.

And Paddy is right that the actual infrastructure of SP, especially for the messaging, needs work. I've lost work lots of times when the employer has said, "Oh I didn't see your message till today. Jobs gone mate."

I always treat job applications like they are 'fire and forget' missiles. You fire one off and forget about it. Sometimes you hear back which is fine, sometimes you don't; which is also fine. Same thing goes with interviews with directors. You have an interview, they always say they'll get back to you but, unless you've got the job they won't (although I'm sure they mean it when they say they will get back to you). They've got a lot on their plate. So, just accept that you might not hear from them again. Just move on to the next one. Its the way it is.

RE: SP infrastructure, the tabs thing does make it a little confusing. Anyone reading this in the bulletins, check your messaging tabs!

Failure to reply pervades this industry, and it's not always about lack of time. When writers like William Goldman and William Nicholson encounter it even after they have won Oscars you know the rest of us have to get usd to it,. I'm trying, but it still bugs me when, for example, a new writing initiative announces it wiill not repond to or even acknowledge submissions which don't get shortlisted.

Ironically, in responding to this post, I have just seen there is a message on the site which has been waiting for a reply from me for a month - but which I didn't know was there!

Just checked my settings: I am supposed to get a notification by e-mail every time someone sends a message. That is definitely not happening.

Fact is that a lot of notification emails from small scale sites don't get through anti spam systems in the first place, (even if the SPF settings are right), and even if they do, if the user doesn't actually read them (and most don't, they just hit the site) soon they end up automatically in spam or promotions or update folders that no one ever looks at either.

If SP staff get their notifications, then they're doing all they can, and it's between thee and them that something goes adrift.

I agree. Most unprofessional not to reply. I get emails from all sorts hoping to work on my feature and they may not be able to, but at least they get a reply, even if I just say that I'll pass it to the HoD. The worse culprits are actors' agents. They NEVER reply, so every single actor in my cast is either known to me personally or has approached me directly after having found out about the film.

It was only after seeing this post that I saw
There was a tab for messages. So thank you. But, yes it is annoying that people don't respond.

I take no response as a no. If they wanted to know you, or work with you they'd make the time.
