I pitch on there occasionally too, and there are some good ones you might like. A few might want to work on your terms.

I loved Hitchock's The Birds, and Soderbergh's Che. (Hitchcock started out as a writer, actually. He broke in by winning a screenwriting contest, one of only three filmmakers I can think of who did.)

If you're looking at films as low budget as Primer, it's probably best to write it yourself, as that's what most nanobudget directors do. (Writers don't understand how much it cost to make a movie until they try directing or producing.) I've done a study of films with that low budget, and only one.

Skeletons, Pi and Primer were writer/director. Skeletons was a writer/director with help, and a budget of six million (so the other writer was probably paid pretty well.) Pi was a writer who knew the director for a long time. So, to make a film like those, you should probably write it yourself. :)
