London's best film nights?

1 year, 9 months ago - CK Goldiing

Hi all,

I'm new to SP and relatively new to London. Are there any great short film nights & general film networking events I should be aware of? Please fill me in... I'd love to get out there and hopefully see you all there.

Thank you,

CK x

PS. Loved SP's wrap night on Monday. I won socks :)

Hi CK
Congrats on your socks :)))

Keep an eye out in January for the London Short Film Festival Programme from Jan 19-28th.
There are tons of Shooters screening short films at the festival and a range of events, screenings and industry focussed evenings.

Their programme looks awesome for 2024 - check it out here: https://www.shortfilms.org.uk/programme

Thank you very much Barry — tickets booked for January 15. You going?

1 year, 9 months ago - Barry Staff

Hi CK,

Yes, would hope to be there.

There are usually a number of actors at B&M.

In case you want to prep yourself, you might like to know that you can address the whole room at some point during the evening.

All best wishes,

Barry

Yeah, I noticed that opportunity when booking the tickets — a nice little touch. Thank you for mentioning this all the same.

Merry Christmas.

Hey CK!

Great to meet you (briefly!) at the Wrap Party!

I've loved Bounce Cinema's nights, usually they host a preview of an upcoming indie feature and host purely networking shindigs sometimes. https://www.bouncecinema.com/

Massive Cinema also do previews, but usually they feel a bit more of a "film fan" than "filmmaker" audience, still brill though. I got to see Bodies Bodies Bodies for free before it came out! https://www.massive-cinema.com/events

Kino also do some super indie short film open mics. I keep meaning to go to one again, usually has a much smaller, intimate vibe but people are usually there with active projects ongoing etc, and also super welcoming to anyone just starting out. https://www.kinoshortfilm.com/short-film-openmic

Film fests are also great. I'm so excited for LSFF this year, the programme looks bloody brilliant. Other great ones for networking in London are also Open City Doc Fest (usually some workshops in the mix of the programme), British Urban Film Fest (really great vibes and celebrating true indies).

I'm not personally a fan of the BFI fests usually for networking etc, there's always great film screenings but I've found the environment a tad intimidating as someone who STILL doesn't have a published film to my name.

Hi Caroline, thank you for this!

Hey CK,

I started Kino London back in 2009. I'm no longer involved but it's still going, albeit in a modified format. It's generally a different from many other shorts 'nights' in the sense that it's a functioning community of filmmakers - largely beginning to mid-experience level - and the screening nights work on more of a first-come-first-served basis. There's no selection involved.

I'm not sure what they're up to at the moment but definitely worth checking out: https://www.kinoshortfilm.com/
