Not sure what response you got to your advert on SP but my advice would be to delineate 'creatives' from 'producers.' Your creatives are the ones who will tease out ideas with you. Your producers will be the ones who will do the hard yards and help unlock the funding process/paperwork. Your pitch is very particular to a social change project so do not exclude those versed in documentary as its what floats their board while your creatives may be more sci-fi orientated (or not). Thank you so much for your message.

I'm not necessarily interested in documentary-types. It would be a fictional project but based on true events. So it would still fall under the realm of social realism in a way. I wasn't sure where to post the question but chose "writing" as I do need support from creatives to help me with further developing the ideas and the stories I have in mind... Hope this clarifies a bit what I'm searching for.

Hello Melanie,
Sometimes funding will help you get the script written. You can show the past work of the writer (and yourself) and just say what kind of thing you plan to do, and the financiers will put forward development funding (and even mentors) to help create the script.

I would be interested in the kind of collaboration that involves looking for funding together, but not in just writing blindly for a project that might not be funded. (I have enough spec scripts as it is.).

In any case, I would be interested in knowing more about the project, and depending on what/who the topic is (and where the action is located) maybe I know some funds we can apply to.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.

I guess through discussions with some of the people who replied to me directly I realized that the project might be quite niche. Having funding to develop the script would ultimately be the best case scenario but I wasn't sure exactly which funders do that and where I can find opportunities to do that. If maybe I could start with having guidance on that then it could be a way to move forward!

Hi Melanie,
Just want to encourage you to pursue the project. Remember that niche means that you may have an underserved audience ready to hear your voice.
Going to audience-centric festivals can always be a starting point. Sometimes producers are there, and sometimes they can be very open about how they received their funding.

Thank you so much for your messages! I'm actually looking for support with my own project but have no budget at the moment - it's basically to submit for funding and to show we have something going on. I'm trying to work on the treatment at the moment but when it'll come to the script I'll have a think. Is that something that would be of interest? Vivek I'm not sure I'm qualified which is why I'm seeking support :-)
