Hi I'm John and I'm based in Madrid(Spain),
Having seen a few documentaries based on 1916(Ireland’s struggle to becoming an independent nation) it spurred me on to put together a mini-play or ‘Micro-teatro’ as referred to by Spaniards. Thus, ‘Two days in Dublin’ was created. Being an actor that one gave me the opportunity (as pretentious as it may sound) to tune my instrument. Two Days in Dublin is still in the oven, I rehearsed it during August but it has a way to go, Sniper is its child if you will.
Vimeo is a nice tool for actors, for a small fee you can save an infinitive number of videos there and also watch work of other directors. Watching other(Tarantino Style) films set ‘Sniper’ in motion. Script done, time to get a crew together. I guess that is the most difficult part as people don’t mind working on projects especially if it’s little or no budget but it’s on there time. So I found myself hopping on buses through Madrid’s windy streets, to the back-end of nowhere pitching ‘Sniper’ to Camera Operators, who ‘liked’ the idea. If you work is low budget, you are at the end of their scale. Work on commercials will be there preference even though it’s not as creative. That’s the challenge. ‘Sniper’ in my head is a Hollywood blockbuster but when you’re pitching it to a Camera Operator in a second language it doesn’t quite turn out like that.
