to live and work in the Soviet Union. Indeed,
for many, like Thomas Segovia's father, the
Soviet Union seemed like this socialist
Utopia in which everybodyworked together
for the good of everyone else.
However, this illusion is brutally exposed
after the assassination of Kirov unleashes
a giant purge of all of Stalin's political
enemies, that results in millions being
sent to the gulags often on trumped
up charges. One of those falsely accused is
19 year old Thomas Segovia who goes to
the worst place on earth, Kolyma, a place
where temperatures can drop to as low
as minus 60 degrees, to work in the
gold fields.
